salted mint lassi

a traditional indian/pakistani refreshing drink for these hot weather days ...

*lightly dry toast one and half teaspoons of cumin seeds in a small skillet until fragrant
*place one teaspoon of it in a blender with a handful fresh mint leaves, one cup natural (preferably full fat, I used homemade) yogurt, half teaspoon sea salt or "flor de sal" and half cup of cold water
*blend everything until smooth and very pale green
*serve over ice and sprinkle the remaining roasted cumin seeds and a couple of mint leaves on top

uma bebida tradicional da India/Paquistão refrescante para estes dias quentes de Verão ...

*torrar levemente numa frigideira seca uma colher e meia de chá de sementes de cominhos
*colocar uma colher de chá destes no copo alto da varinha mágica. juntar uma mão cheia de folhas frescas de hortelã, dois iogurtes naturais (de preferência gordo, eu faço o meu próprio iogurte), meia colher de chá de flor de sal ou sal marinho e um copo do iogurte mal medido de água fria
*misturar tudo com a varinha mágica até uniforme 
*servir em copos com gelo e polvilhado com as restantes sementes de cominhos e folhas de hortelã

half a dozen

fresh eggs from the market this morning ... from a small local farmer. the chickens live free all day and eat vegetables and a portion of corn. they are special gifts!*

household cleaning

since I can remember fridays were cleaning days at home and my mum used to bake a cake ... every friday a wonderfully scented cake would perfume the house. everything was then ready for the weekend!
