BILHA Nº 5

"Bilha"is a clay container used traditionally to carry and keep water. These used to be classified by numbers from 1 to 7 according to their sizes and the amount of water they could roughly contain being no. 1 the smallest and 7 the largest.

In a time when potteries where busy places workers would follow a table which indicated the amount of pieces they would need to make in a day. When young Mr. Domingos started working he would have to make 50 similar to the one in the video that corresponds to number 5. This was after he had kneaded and prepared the amount of necessary clay o make them.

As bilhas que eram tradicionalmente usadas para guardar e transportar água distinguiam-se por números correspondentes a tamanhos desde a nº1 à nº7 sendo o nº 1 a mais pequena e a 7 a maior.

Na época em que as olarias eram lugares muito atarefados havia tabelas para quantas peças os oleiros tinham que produzir diariamente. Na olaria onde o Sr. Domingos começou a trabalhar os oleiros tinham de fazer 50 bilhas nº 5 (idênticas às deste video) por dia, isto para além de amassarem e prepararem o barro necessário para as fazer.
